Highway 64 with BIG AL

There's a distinct magic to country music that transcends generations, and for listeners of 103.1 The Bear and WJVR HD2 - 103.5 Big Country, that magic is channeled through the legendary radio host known as Big Al. His show, "Highway 64 with BIG AL," has been a long-standing staple for country music enthusiasts and a source of inspiration and entertainment for countless fans. Let's take a closer look at the man behind the microphone and his incredible journey along "Highway 64."

Big Al has been a radio personality for well over three decades! Over the years, BIG AL has become an integral part of the lives of his loyal listeners throughout the two Virginias.

His love affair with country music began at a young age, nurtured by the melodies of classic country artists, such as Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty and Ronnie Millsap. Big Al likes other music genres too. One of his favorites is the 80’s!

As a “twenty something” youngman he started working at W.X.C.F., a local radio station in Clifton Forge, VA, where he honed his skills and deepened his appreciation for the genre. It wasn't long before he became known as "Big Al," a name that perfectly encapsulated his larger-than-life personality and love for country music. His first radio show, “Big Al in the Morning” was where he first cracked his mic and he hasn’t stopped since!

Big Al will tell you, "Highway 64 is more than just a radio show; it's a journey through the heartland of country music." Al's deep, resonant voice and encyclopedic knowledge of the genre guide listeners through the scenic landscapes of classic hits, contemporary favorites, and undiscovered gems. With a diverse playlist that encompasses both iconic legends and emerging talent, he bridges the gap between the old and the new, celebrating the rich tapestry of country music.

What sets Big Al apart is his authentic connection with his audience. He doesn't just play the songs; he shares stories, anecdotes, and personal insights that make each song come alive. Listeners tune in not just for the music but for the companionship and warmth he offers during each broadcast.

In addition to the music, Big Al's dedication to the community shines through his involvement in local events, charities, and the support he lends to aspiring country musicians. He's often spotted at fairs, festivals, and country music concerts, bringing the spirit of "Highway 64 with BIG AL" to life off the airwaves.

Big Al's show isn't confined to the studio; it's a journey along the open road of country music. He's known for his themed shows that take listeners on musical trips, whether it's a classic country road trip, a celebration of the genre's legends, or a showcase of the latest hits.

As "Highway 64 with BIG AL" continues to roll along, Al remains committed to spreading the love of country music and forging a deep connection with his audience. In a world of ever-evolving media, Big Al's enduring passion and dedication remind us that there's something timeless and irreplaceable about the sound of country music on the radio, and the comforting presence of a host like Big Al on the journey.

To connect your business or organization with Big Al it’s very simple, you may emailing him directly at highway64withbigal@gmail.com or you may reach out to him personally via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/highway64withbigal or by Facebook Messenger! It doesn’t get any easier than that!

In 1999, Mustard was diagnosed with Cancer. After finishing treatment, he gave his life to the Lord. Mustard approached Big Country 101 - WKEY-FM and asked if he could  play music for the Lord.
