Dr. Cynthia Morrow Issues Her Bi-Weekly Situational Update On COVID 19 In The Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts….

Roanoke, VA – On Tuesday morning, Dr. Cynthia Morrow of the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts gave her bi-weekly report to local media via video call. 

Cumulative Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts have overall 34,564 positive COVID cases to date (up 550 in the past week). Of those total cases, the Alleghany Health District saw 22505 cases and the Roanoke City Health District saw 12059 cases. Approximately 20% of new cases are in children with approximately 40% of new cases are in persons younger than 35 years of age. The overwhelming majority of new cases and hospitalizations continue to occur in individuals who are not fully vaccinated.

As of Monday, October 25, 2021 there were 59 people hospitalized with COVID-19. 25 of those are  new hospitalizations. 20 in the Roanoke City Health District and 39 in the Alleghany Health District. As a reminder, these numbers reflect hospitalizations for residents of the RCAHD. An additional 36 individuals from outside of these districts are currently hospitalized in local hospitals. COVID-19 related deaths, as of Tuesday, October 26, 2021 are 604. Of which 369 are from the Alleghany Health District and 235 from the Roanoke City Health District

There have been almost 312,000* doses of vaccine administered to residents of the 

Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts as of October 24, 2021. This includes third/ booster doses.
