The River 101.9 FM

Your Classic Rock Station

Highlands Media Group welcomes you to the all new 101.9 The River - W.J.V.R., “Your Classic Rock Station”.

Classic rock is a radio format which developed from the album-oriented rock (AOR) format in the early 1980s. In the United States, the classic rock format features music ranging generally from the mid-1960s to the late 1980s, primarily focusing on commercially successful hard rock popularized in the 1970s.

Although classic rock has mostly appealed to adult listeners, music associated with this format received more exposure with younger generations of listeners with the presence of the internet and digital downloading. Some classic rock stations also play a limited number of current releases which are stylistically consistent with the station's sound, or by heritage acts that are still active and producing new music.

As your newest choice for music in the Alleghany Highlands, we are proud to be able to offer you some of your favorite “Rockers” like Ted Nugent, Skid Row, .38 Special, Ozzy Osbourne, Bob Seger, Marshall Tucker Band, Queen, Eagles and numerous others.

No more static from those far away Classic Rock stations or the same old songs being played over and over again. You now have your very own Classic Rock Station - 101.9 The River - W.J.V.R.

101.9 The River is also the home of Alleghany High School Sports.

From the SkyView Traffic Center it's Big Al here with your afternoon traffic report, sponsored by Dewey's Automotive, LLC, located at 609 West Chestnut Street in Covington Virginia.

Now let's go to traffic…

Looking at Interstate 64 this morning/afternoon, From the state line to 21mm eastbound clear sailing, but at the 21mm, that’s Route 696 in Low Moor, bridge work continues the east right lane and shoulder and west right land and shoulder are alternating closures. From there to Lexington clear sailing this afternoon.

Coming back westbound from Lexington, the same as eastbound, bridge work at the 21 mm westbound other than that smooth sailing back to the West Virginia line.

Rt 220 North to Hot Springs and back to Covington is clear. Route 18 N/S at Cedar Hill Cemetery - Emergency repair work continues on this stretch of road. Carpenter Drive is down to a single gravel lane controlled by stop lights at this time. Reduce your speed and expect heavy construction traffic and delays.. 60 E/W is clear. 159 N/S and Rt 311 N/S are also clear. Now 42 E/W and 39 N/S clear as well.

Now RT 220 N/S from Iron Gate to Eagle Rock. The usual construction activities going on there in multiple locations. Expect delays. Plan ahead and give yourself a little extra time going to and from this afternoon. Now on to I-81 SB from Botetourt to Roanoke and Salem is clear.

Have a vehicle broken down or been in an accident then request Dewey's Automotive, LLC with your police officer or call them yourself at 540-962-3255 or check them out on Facebook. From the SkyView Traffic Center I'm Big Al, have a great afternoon and evening. Drive safe!
