Curtis Autry Broughfman, Sr., age 81, of Covington, died Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at his residence. He was born November 24, 1944, in Alleghany County, and was preceded in death by his parents, the late Earl C. Broughfman, Sr. and Nellie Staton Broughfman. He was also preceded in death by a long-time companion, Marilyn Tucker; two sons, Curtis Broughman, Jr. and Edward Campbell; and two sisters, Shirley Perkins and Daisy Durham. Surviving to mourn his loss include a daughter, Kristal (Chris) Mabry of Covington; a son, Jeffrey Broughfman of New Castle; a daughter, Rebekah Alexandre of Salisbury, NC; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl (Jeanie) Broughfman and Jesse (Jenny) Broughfman; two sisters, Darlene (William) Meadows, and Peggy Graham all of Covington; numerous nieces and nephews; and two special caregivers, Susan Fridley and James Tucker. He worked for several years at Smurfit WestRock in Covington. A simple country boy at heart, he loved fishing and hunting and found great joy in the outdoors. In keeping with Mr. Broughfman’s wishes, his body has been cremated. A private service is planned for a later date. Arritt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
