Dale Thompson

Dale Anthony Thompson, Sr., age 70, of 3204 Indian Draft Road, Millboro, Virginia died on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, Virginia. Dale was born on May 14, 1956 in Rockbridge County, Virginia to the late Emory and Isabelle Burke Thompson. He was retired from the maintenance department at Augusta Correctional Center. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming, mowing grass, working on classic cars, and hunting. He loved following NASCAR, particularly the career of the late Dale Earnhardt, but was a fan of anyone driving a Chevy. In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by seven siblings, Joe Thompson, Peggy Hall, Wanda Cataldi, Linda Thompson, Judy Thompson, James Thompson, and Allen Thompson; and a daughter-in-law, Jessica Mace Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lee “Lee Lee” Cauley Thompson of Millboro; two sons, Dale Anthony Thompson, Jr. and Eric Thompson; three sisters, Pat Loan (Dennis, Sr.), Delores Ingram, and Robin Duke; two brothers, Glenn Thompson (Geneva) and Wayne Thompson (Tressa); a sister-in-law, Lois Thompson; three grandchildren, Emily Thompson, Tyler Thompson, and Eli Lee Thompson; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Mike Rollins officiating. Interment will follow in Windy Cove Cemetery, Millboro Springs. Pallbearers will be Tyler Thompson, John Loan, Dennis Loan, Jr., Brian Cauley, Clinton Cauley, Willie Gibson, and Aiden St. Clair. The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 12:30 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home. Cheryl Wolfe

Cheryl Ann Wolfe, age 57, of Paramus, New Jersey, formerly of Covington, Virginia, died on Wednesday, June 19, 2026 at New Bride Medical Center in Paramus. Cheryl was born on October 5, 1968 in St. Petersburg, Florida. She was the daughter of Shirley Cash Wolfe of Covington and the late Lacy Wolfe. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Covington. In addition to her mother Shirley of Covington, Cheryl is survived by a daughter, Olivia Wolfe Brandt and husband Preston of Ft. Myers, FL; a brother, Randy Wolfe (Sandi) of Valley Ridge, Covington; and a grandson, Shepard Brandt. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Faith Baptist Church, Covington with Pastor Jack Voight officiating, assisted by Pastor Billy Price. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. The family will visit with friend on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service at Faith Baptist Church. Linda Caldwell

Linda Marie Slayton Caldwell, age 73, of 222 Jacksons Flat, Covington, Virginia died on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at her home. Linda was born on December 26, 1952 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Guy Ralph Slayton and Annie Lucille Lucas Slayton. She was a graduate of Covington High School, and received her nursing education from the Lynchburg General Hospital school of nursing She began her nursing career at the former Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Covington. She joined the operating room at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor, when it opened in1979, and worked in the operating room for 35 years. She also worked for the Greenbrier Clinic, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and Intrepid Home Health. She remained active in her sorority and frequently attended O.R. retirement lunches. Linda was a member of the First Christian Church of Covington and a woman of strong Christian faith. She loved going to church, having company, winemaking, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a great cook, a talented quilter, and an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Gray “Ronnie” Slayton and Guy Douglas “Doug” Slayton, and a sister, Karren Slayton Whitmer. She is survived by her husband, John P. “Pat” Caldwell of Covington; her son, Seth Patrick Caldwell and wife Danielle of Harrisonburg; two granddaughters, Lucy Caldwell and Everleigh Caldwell; a sister, Susan Slayton Campbell and husband Butch of Clifton Forge; a sister-in-law, Ellen “Minnie” Broughman Slayton of Selma; a brother-in-law, Richard Allen “Buck” Caldwell and wife Vicki of White Sulphur Springs, WV; her nieces and nephew, Nicole Gumm Groseclose (David), Brooke Gumm Nogue (Kevin), and Scott Slayton; as well as many friends. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Bill Gilliland officiating, assisted by Mr. Buck Caldwell. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington. Pallbearers will be Pat Jackson, Davey Jackson, Jason Lee, Jared Campbell, Butch Campbell, and Joe Pascarella. Melvina Simmons

Melvina June Simmons, age 82, of The Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs, Virginia and formerly of Covington, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and memories that will never be forgotten. Melvina was born in the Paintbank area of Craig County, Virginia on June 2, 1944 to the late Vernie Allen Simmons and Stella Jane Thompson Simmons. One of ten children, she was a wild heart through and through. She lived life her own way, loved fiercely, and never met many strangers. She brought laughter, and a little bit of adventure wherever she went. She was a homemaker throughout her life, and loved music, dancing, growing her flowers, and playing a game of cards. She is survived by her daughters, Robin Tucker and Connie Skibinski, four grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. While our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing her spirit lives on in the stories we tell, the memories we share, and the love she left behind. The family would like to give a special thank you to everyone at The Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs for loving and caring for Melvina over the last six years. Thank you for treating her like family, for the kindness you showed her each day, and for the comfort and care you gave her. We will always be grateful for the love you showed our June Bug. Jerry Belcher

Jerry Wayne Belcher, Jr., age 56, of 560 Roxbury Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died on Friday, June 12, 2026 at his residence. Jerry was born on June 14, 1969 in Clifton Forge to the late Jerry Wayne Belcher, Sr. and Linda Morris Belcher. He worked for Kroger as a stocker, was a member of First Christian Church, and was an honorary member with the Iron Gate Fire Department. He was an avid fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Miami Dolphins. Jerry is survived by his wife, Dawn Mahaney Belcher and two sons, Seth Alan Belcher (Kala) and Aaron Gregg (Kristin), all of Clifton Forge; five grandchildren, Bentley, August, Jeremiah, Jordan, and Kendra; as well as a host of friends. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Active pallbearers will be Troy Belcher, Tony Belcher, Todd Crance, Mike Weiford, James Richmond, and Travis Bubnick. Robert Jenkins

Robert Dewey “Bob” Jenkins, age 83, of Millboro died peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026 at Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg. He was born on May 11, 1943 in Covington, Virginia to the late John Paul Jenkins, Sr., and Shirley Mildred Martin Jenkins. After graduation from Virginia Tech in 1967, Bob taught and coached at Alleghany High School. He returned to Virginia Tech and received a degree in accounting. He worked for a CPA firm in Winchester where he earned his CPA license. In 1973, Bob began his 26 year career at the BARC Electric Coop in Millboro as the manager of the office services. Bob shared with his wife, Bonnie and their son, Todd, his love of hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening and Virginia Tech sports. He was a person who always put his family first! He was a loving and generous husband, dad, and "Pappy." He enjoyed sharing his time with each. Bob loved coaching Babe Ruth Baseball. He coached and refereed little league football, baseball and basketball which he did up until Todd entered high school. He introduced him to the sport of golf and Bob loved following Todd throughout his high school and college years. He was a member of the Millboro Ruritans for 25 years. He was a lifetime member of the Clifton Forge Elks and a longtime member of Cliftondale Golf Country Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Emma Pearle Gillespie Jenkins; his Aunt Ivan Jenkins Johnson (Donnie); step mother, Ruby Gillespie Jenkins; and son, Michael “Mickey” L. Jenkins. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Weaver Jenkins of Millboro; a son, Jonathan “Todd” Jenkins (Tiffany Miller) of Charlottesville; two grandchildren, Miller Payton and Ellison Tucker Jenkins; a brother, John Paul “JP” Jenkins, Jr. (Margaret); a sister-in-law, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Weaver Donnelly (Dennis); a “like” sister, Ruth Johnson Rodgers (Ray); nephews, Steve Jenkins, Kyle Donnelly, Danny Rodgers; nieces, Kellie Jenkins Pry and Kristy Rodgers Pasco. In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 11:00AM in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor with Mr. JD Williams and Pastor Con Sauls of Windy Cove Church officiating. The family will visit friends following the service at the graveside. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Bath County Rec Department, 65 Panther Drive, Hot Springs, VA 24445, to support the Little League programs for the children in Millboro.


Tracy Brown

Tracy Allen Brown, age 57, of Clifton Forge, Virginia died Thursday, June 11, 2026 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany. He was born January 13, 1969 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Floyd Odell “Tom” Brown, Sr. and Mildred Louise Wilcher Brown. He was a retired truck driver for Hall’s Transfer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Douglas Brown and Floyd Odell “Poochie” Brown, Jr.; two sisters, Debra Lynn Brown and Patricia Ann Groves; and his trusty companion, Rusty. He is survived by a special niece, Tina Groves (Jerry); two nephews, Joey Brown and Matt Brown; a great nephew, James Douglas Groves (Marissa and Maddy); a great niece, Emily Lawhorn (Bud, Will, Grayson); and special friend, Lisa Smith. In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A private service will be held at a later date.


Betty Wright

Betty Sue Burgess Wright, age 87, of Cardinal Senior Living in Roanoke, Virginia and formerly of Eagle Rock, Virginia, died on Thursday, June 11, 2026 in Roanoke. Betty was born on February 10, 1939 in Eagle Rock to the late George G. and Catherine Zimmerman Burgess. She retired from banking after 44 years with the Bank of Botetourt, formerly Eagle Rock Bank, and was a longtime member of Eagle Rock United Methodist Church. She loved singing and sang in the Botetourt Chorus. Betty enjoyed her flowers and making flower arrangements, but especially loved spending time with her sisters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Wright; a brother, George G. Burgess, Jr.; two sisters, Ellen Jane Fulton and Virginia Burgess Newcomb; an infant granddaughter, Jennifer R. Dudding; and a daughter-in-law, Lisa H. Dudding. Betty is survived by a son, Delbert A. Dudding, Jr. (Judy) of Troutville; two sisters, Patsy Craft of Iron Gate and Kitty Bryant (Danny) of Eagle Rock; a granddaughter, Meredith Dudding; a step grandson, Rick Horne (Cary); two step great grandchildren, Noah Horne and Ava Horne; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 12:00 Noon in Eagle Rock United Methodist Church with Reverend Ray Sandifer officiating. Interment will be made privately in Eagle Rock Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday morning from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the church. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Eagle Rock United Methodist Church or the Eagle Rock Fire and Rescue.
