Sandra Jo Kemper, 71, of Covington, died Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke. She was born July 28, 1955 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Joseph and Edna Wolfe Kemper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Steven Kemper. Sandy attended nursing school at Community Hospital in Roanoke, graduating with the class of 1977, and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Radford University. She worked for many years at Alleghany Memorial Hospital, Alleghany Regional Hospital, and Community Hospital, primarily in labor and delivery. She also served as a Lamaze instructor for many years, taught nursing at ECPI in Roanoke, and tutored many nursing students over the years. In her free time, Sandy loved Siamese cats and Arabian horses. She enjoyed quilting, antiquing, and attending auctions. An avid car collector with a special fondness for Mopars, she belonged to several car clubs in both Covington and Roanoke. She also collected P. Buckley Moss artwork and Longaberger baskets, and was a devoted QVC watcher, especially of “In the Kitchen with David.” Survivors include a special cousin, Donna Kemper; special friends Dianna and Pat Scruggs, and Grace Ferris, all of Covington; many extended family and friends; and her three beloved Siamese cats. In accordance with Sandy’s wishes, her body has been cremated. A celebration of life will be conducted on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at 3:00 PM in the Arritt Funeral Home chapel with Minister Patrick Scruggs officiating. The family will receive their friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Arritt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
