Deborah Kay Twitty, age 74, of 509 S. Mercer Avenue, Covington, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her family and friends. She was born, January 30, 1952, in Covington, the second oldest daughter of the late Clarence and Juanita West Twitty; in addition to her parents, Deborah was preceded in death by her brother, Clarence (Gut) Twitty III; her grandparents, Ralph and Helen West, Clarence and Mary Twitty, her best friends, Gloria Jeter and Ann Reynolds. Deborah was a faithful and dedicated member of Historical First Baptist Church where she was baptized at an early age working in the church on the hospitality committee; for many years she was employed at the former K Mart in Covington as a salesclerk, did housework for people outside her home; she was the caretaker of her mom, dad and brother during their last days; she adored all her nieces and nephews and babysat for many of them through the years. She made anybody that was a part of her life feel as though they were the only person she loved, but to her sisters and brothers and family members, to her friends, females and males she was so grateful for each and every one and she was able to spread her love around to all of us making all feel special. Ba Sis enjoyed playing cards, playing games on her tablet and was an avid sports fan but to her, “How bout them Cowboys”. ‘Ba Sis’ or ‘Granny’ as she was fondly called by most. She enjoyed cooking on Sunday’s and holidays, having the entire family come to eat her delicious food. She leaves to mourn her loss, a son, Adaryl (Tammy) Twitty of Richmond, a daughter, Demittre Twitty of Covington, a grandson, Shemari Turpin of Covington (who was the joy of her life), also Terrill (Bre) Twitty and Tanisha Twitty of Richmond; two great grandchildren, Izaiah Twitty, and Capri Hines of Richmond; her siblings, four sisters, Elmira Twitty, Beverly Twitty, Sharon (Kenneth) Johnson, Yvette Twitty, all of Covington, one brother Keith (Ann) Twitty of Harrisonburg; a host of special nieces nephews, and cousins; Aunt Judy Jordan, her great aunt, Ms. Leatha Smith, her grandmother, Ms. Nanny West; a close sisterhood and brotherhood and extended family including a host of cousins whom she adored and countless friends who were like family; her very best friend, Clayton Jackson; and her dog Bentley. In keeping with her wishes her body has been cremated. A celebration of life will be conducted at a later date. Arritt Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the arrangements for Deborah.
