Dolly Carter Lowry

Dolly Carter Lowry, 68, of Covington, died Sunday, September 13, 2026, at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem. She was born May 23, 1958, in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late William Floyd Carter, Sr., and Martha Eunice Bailey Carter Quantz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Dale Lowry, Sr.; a sister, Janet Melvin; and one brother, W.F. Carter. Dolly was a longtime employee of the former Downers Hardware, the former Covington Tire and Auto, and most recently King’s Tire in Covington. She was a dedicated supporter of the Covington Little League, standing behind her husband as a coach and her two sons throughout their years as players. She also supported her husband and sons in their service with the Falling Spring Fire Department. Survivors include her two sons, Dale Lowry, Jr., and his wife, Holly, and Anthony Lowry and his wife, Nikki, all of Covington; five grandchildren, Maddy Lowry, Raelyn Lowry, Vada Lowry, Laurel Lowry, and Quentin Lowry; two sisters, Barbara (Bob) Shifflett and Billie Carter, all of Covington; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Scott Melvin of Covington; Bill (Patricia) Lowry of Millboro; Alicia Carter of Covington; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will follow at Falling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive their friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at Arritt Funeral Home.
