Mrs. Geraldine Higgins Sartain, age 99, of Durham, NC, formerly of Covington, died Saturday, August 8, 2026, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Spencer Blaine (Buddy) Sartain, Jr. Mrs. Sartain was born August 14, 1926 in Collierstown, VA, the daughter of the late Robert Gregory Higgins and Verna Lee Knick Higgins. During her working career, she had been employed as a clerk by the J.C. Penney Company for a number of years. While living in Covington, Jerry was active in the Home Demonstration Club, the Circles at Granbery United Methodist Church and various activities at her sons' schools. She always loved gardening and working with her flowers. Later on in life, Jerry worked crosswords puzzles every day and developed a great interest in scrapbooking. A truly wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, nothing made Jerry happier than eating "her sweets' and being with her family and friends! Mrs. Sartain is survived by her children, Jedy Sartain and wife, Jean and Mike Sartain and wife, Barbara; her grandchildren, Amy Sartain, Ashley Sartain, Michael Sartain and Stephanie Sartain (Shane); her great grandchildren, Caroline Sartain and Chris Sartain; her brother, Bobby Higgins and wife, Anne; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Sartain was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lori Sartain and ten brothers and sisters. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 15, 2026 from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 12:30 P.M. until time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
