Mr. Larry Vaughn Deacon, age 84, of Covington, died Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at his residence. He was the husband of Phyllis Jean Whitmore Deacon. Mr. Deacon was born February 7, 1942 in Covington, the son of the late Aubrey Vaughn Deacon and Gerline Scott Deacon. He was a graduate of Covington High. Mr. Deacon was employed as a team leader in the bleach room by Westvaco, Inc for a number of years before his retirement. Larry was a longtime and active member of Temple Baptist Church where he served his church as a deacon. Mr. Deacon enjoyed serving others in his community by assisting with the food pantry, working with the Men of Mission and was a volunteer with the Christmas Mother. He was also a youth basketball coach for thirty-seven years. In addition to his wife, Mr. Deacon is survived by two daughters, Melinda A. Deacon of Covington and Sherry L. Vance of Covington; two grandchildren Shayli Deacon, Tyler Deacon and wife, Latisha and their children, Isabellah Anderson and Ayden Anderson; a great granddaughter, Tatum Nichols; cousins, Robbie Robertson and Nancy Agee; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Kenny Whitmore and his wife, Gwen, Barbara Bazzrea, and Larry Dale Whitmore. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
